So long old faithful club vehicles

With the introduction of the Skylaunch Retrieve Winch system,  Bannerdown no longer needs vehicles to tow cables from the winch to the launch point. So the club said farewell to two of it’s older ground vehicles last week.

Guy Westgate visited Bannerdown at the weekend with glider, the very aerobatic Fox.

It wasn’t the best weekend for flying, but eight members took to the sky with Guy to experience and learn some serious aerobatics.

Scouts Progressing Well..

Bannerdown has been training four Scouts from 10th Chippenham Air Scouts for the last few weeks.   Their training is progressing well, with some of them now landing the glider themselves.

As well as learning to fly the aircraft, the Scouts also help with launching the aircraft.

Having flown his first solo in August, Aden has wasted no time in getting converted to the single seat K18.

The Bannerdown Forum has been revamped and is now for members only.   Go look!

The committee will be using it to inform us of various changes.  The first is already there.   If you like flying for more than 10 minutes – then the read the latest CFI Blog post in the forum!   Good News or Bad News?  You’ll have to check for yourself – but it will affect the pennies in your wallet (or purse)!

50 km – Silver Leg

Congratulations to Jon Butler who has now completed his 50km flight.   Jon has now completed his Silver Badge – Well Done!

The BGA Silver Badge requires completion of the following:

  • Height – a gain of height of 1000 metres (3281 feet) or more.
  • Distance – a flight on a straight course of 50km or more.
  • Duration – a flight of 5 hours or more.

A BGA Silver Badge is required to become an Instructor or to fly in a competition (an FAI sporting licence is also needed for Competitions).

First Solo on 15th Birthday

Congratulations to Aden Jones who went solo yesterday on his 15th birthday.
