Last weekend, while we was waiting for permission to use Keevil for gliding, a few members went up to Aston Down for some soaring.

Glider pilots planned their cross country flying routes to ensure suitable airfields were available to land at along the route of required to eliminate any risk to landing on private land during the Covid conditions.

As RAFGSA Chairman I have been working with both the BGA and RAF Sports Federation this week to determine our route to return to Club flying and to try and assure the ISRGC in Aug. Whilst the RAF Sports Federation is extremely supportive and committed to helping us get back to operations there are three steps that need to be satisfied before any Club flying can resume:

On June 5, 1944, at 11.30pm, the first of 46 fully laden Stirling heavy bombers left Keevil Airfield destined for France and the pivotal military action of the war.
The planes, from 196 and 299 Squadrons, were part of Operation Overlord.
Each aircraft carried 20 paratroopers from the British 6th Airborne Division and dropped them in Normandy in the early hours of June 6.
Both 196 and 299 Squadrons lost one aircraft.
The surviving planes returned to Keevil Airfield for the crew members of 38 ... See more
